When surveying Canelo Alvarez’s influence on younger boxers of course — it has been immense.
Canelo Alvarez’s impact on young boxers extends far beyond his impressive record and championship belts.
He has become a symbol of inspiration, a role model, and a catalyst for change within the sport — no question about it.
1. Inspiring a New Generation: Alvarez’ big fights in America and worldwide have brought along a new crop of stars hoping to be the next Canelo. He doesn’t trash talk really and does his talking in the ring and is a great role model for young fighters.
2. Elevating the Sport: Alvarez brought together not only all of Latin America with USA through boxing but also sports fans around the English and Spanish-speaking worlds, which is a vast market. Very few ever achieved this unique thing.
3. Promoting Healthy Competition: Alvarez comes across as a great sportsman and regardless of win or defeat (like against Dmitry Bivol up at light-heavyweight) — he trains just as hard. This is a great lesson to young boxers and aspiring athletes.
4. Breaking Down Barriers: Alvarez broke down barriers not only for young Mexican fighters but fighters across Latin America the way he took America by storm. Alvarez is so powerful that he goes up against the UFC this weekend with his fight card against Berlanga as the MMA mammoth have a fight the same night in the same city (Las Vegas) and Alvarez has smashed them at the box office — causing the UFC to take a lot of losses reportedly. That’s the kind of barriers Alvarez not only breaks down but smashes to bits.
5. Fostering a Mentality of Excellence: Canelo’s main strength is his mind. Young fighters look up to him because of his consistent improvement every fight he has. Regardless of his success he never rests and is always getting better. Never takes it easy. Always relentlessly improving. An inspiration to young fighters.
