Claressa Shields Is Not Fighting For The Heavyweight Title, She Fights For The Light-Heavyweight Title July 27th

In a stunning piece of news Claressa Shields will make history moving up from middleweight incredibly to light-heavyweight in women’s professional boxing.

Many already regard Shields as the greatest female fighter in boxing history of all time.

Pound for pound.

But this will solidify that.

Almost crazily, but sure as day, is happening, Shields will challenge Vanessa Lepage-Joanisse for the WBC light-heavyweight world title on July 27th in Detroit.

Lepage-Joanisse is reported to have weighed over 230 lbs. at times in her career.

So Shields coming up from approximately 160 lbs. is quite something.

Earlier reports said Shields will fight for the heavyweight title in women’s boxing but this is not true.

Shields clarified on X that it is for the light-heavyweight title at 175 lbs. saying on X:

“Light- HEAVYWEIGHT 175lbs”

Shields misspoke and was correcting herself and a fight poster per:
