Andre Ward Reacts To Claressa Shields Going 10-0 With Habazin Win

Double Olympic Gold medalist Claressa Shields continued her winning streak as a professional this past Friday night with a points win over Ivana Habazin in Atlantic City.

Shields won the contest by unanimous decision and improved her professional boxing record to 10-0 (2 KO).

Recently Shields has been linked with a fight against a UFC champion, apparently under boxing rules, but as for now her career appears to be staying on a boxing trajectory with Showtime.

Following her latest win in the ring former pound for pound number one boxer Andre Ward had this to say of both Shields’ victory and what she is doing for women’s boxing as a sport:

Indeed, women’s boxing does continue to grow in popularity month after month following a notable female fight.

The likes of Shields, Katie Taylor, the Serrano sisters, Heather Hardy, Savannah Marshall, Cecilia Brækhus and many others continue to impress and do their part in growing the women’s boxing brand in their respective territories.

While women’s boxing will obviously never be as popular as their male counterparts’ pro code, admittedly, the growth in the sport is genuine and a quality fight is a quality fight at the end of the day.

It’s here to stay and is a good product as it is continued to be shown as.

Some of the Katie Taylor fights in particular since she turned pro have been amazing to watch.
