Hall of Fame trainer Freddie Roach is back in the corner of boxing legend Manny Pacquiao ahead of his fight with Adrien Broner on January 19th in Vegas after one fight without one another last time out.
That fight came against Lucas Matthysse where PacMan trained under long time assistant trainer Buboy Fernandez as his head coach for the bout.
The result was his first stoppage win in over nine years.
Buboy will continue as a coach for the Broner fight but Freddie Roach is now also back in the fold with a slight tweak to his working relationship in that Pacquiao wants Buboy to do the pads more.
Speaking to Blue Blood Sports TV, Freddie said of the reunion:
“Very good. He had one fight without me. We spoke last week and he told me he’ll be back in two weeks. We’re looking for sparring partners right now for Broner and once we get them we’ll start.”
He added:
“We just had a casual conversation. He threw a figure out there and I said yes and everything worked out. He just wants Buboy to do more mitts as I’m getting older.”
On possible tactics for Broner, Freddie concluded:
“Adrien is more of a counter puncher so we have to draw that lead out and possibly counter punch himself.”
The fight will take place on January 19th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas live on Showtime pay per view.
