Boxing genius Oleksandr Usyk proved once again why he’s one of the best fighters in the world pound for pound this weekend with his KO of Tony Bellew. Now Usyk is turning his attention to the heavyweight division.
Usyk is surely a leading contender for fighter of the year 2018 after winning the World Boxing Super Series and capping his year off with a KO of Tony Bellew.
Talks going into the fight beforehand suggested that Usyk is targeting current heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua.
Speaking to IFL TV after his fight with Usyk, Bellew said:
“I think the big man (Anthony Joshua) is just too strong. He (Usyk) will give him problems for five or six rounds but the big man (Joshua) will come through.”
It is thought Usyk will take a considerable break and a well deserved one after this weekend’s fight with a planned return possibly in next March or April up at heavyweight.
