Eddie Hearn Feels Joshua vs Wilder Can Now Only Happen One Way

Promoter of heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua Eddie Hearn believes if the much wanted Deontay Wilder unification is to happen that it can now only happen one way.

DAZN appear to have changed the game today by signing the biggest star in US boxing in Canelo Alvarez who will no longer box on pay per view.

Instead, he will fight on subscription for just $9.99 a month and his fight on December 15th against Rocky Fielding will actually be free – according to Fielding’s promoter Eddie Hearn.

One fight that everyone in boxing has called for this year is Anthony Joshua vs Deontay Wilder but it doesn’t seem any closer to reality than it was when it was first mentioned.

Speaking in a media scrum today Joshua promoter Eddie Hearn believes it can only happen on streaming service DAZN:

“If Showtime want to guarantee 35 or 40 million dollars worth or revenue against their pay per view then we’ll talk (to make Joshua  vs Wilder). But DAZN will! So, that’s who we have to take serious. We’re not interested in speculating. The US pay per view market especially for fights like Joshua vs Wilder and Wilder vs Fury is just pure speculation. We just don’t know do we. You’ve got great fights like Ward vs Kovalev doing 150,000 buys. Golovkin vs Jacobs doing 160/170,000 buys, so we can’t afford to speculate on a fight of that magnitude (Joshua vs Wilder). So, we’d rather take DAZN’s money.”

The thing is though, Deontay Wilder takes on Tyson Fury next on December 1st which is a huge challenge in itself.

Tyson Fury will have some plans about ripping up the above script and beating Wilder to force a fight somehow with Joshua himself.

It’s all happening at the moment in boxing. It really is.
