A rather embarrassing faux pas had to be quickly corrected at the Joshua vs Povetkin weigh-in ahead of tonight’s boxing at Wembley stadium.
Mistakes happen in all professional sports at the end of the day.
When Joshua first stepped onto the scales the announcer yesterday called out his weight as 17 stone 5 lbs and the challenger Povetkin at 15 stone 12 lbs.
This was not correct at all however.
Joshua’s official weight was actually 17 stone 8 lbs it should be noted.
Indeed, the 28-year-old world champion made a joke out of it after saying he’ll need to have his dancing shoes on and how aware he was that Povetkin is coming in-built for speed.
Povetkin will need to be quick, too, if he wants to upset the apple cart tonight boxing away from home.
Getting inside the superior reach of Joshua is going to be a tough challenge and he’ll need to show excellent footwork, head movement and speed to do so.
While setting up his attacks with feints and a strong jab.
Joshua on the other hand can box on the outside of his wishes but he has promised fans he’s more or less going to go to war with Povetkin tonight.
That should spell for some fireworks for boxing fans – roll on the first bell tonight.
