Floyd Mayweather although he said he retired after the Conor McGregor fight, at 40 years of age, is definitely coming back.
At the weekend Mayweather said on camera and on social media that he was returning to the sport to face Manny Pacquiao in a rematch.
Well, he is. Just not in his next fight.
Speaking on camera to TMZ Sports, Mayweather said:
“I know everybody heard about the Mayweather vs Pacquiao fight but before the Mayweather-Pacquiao rematch I will be back in Tokyo for a huge boxing event.”
Well, there you have it.
Despite Mayweather saying on camera and on social media that he would be coming back this year to take on Pacquiao, he’s not.
Not that he’s not fighting Pacquiao in a rematch – just not that soon.
He’s first having a comeback fight before he gets back in there with Pacquiao.
Smart move, really.
He knows that he’s been out of the ring for quite some time and at 40 years of age he’d need a lot of time to get back in shape and fight ready for Pacquiao who looked impressive last time out against Matthysse.
The plot thickens.
One thing we do now know is that Floyd Mayweather is certainly not retired and won’t be sitting on 50-0 for long.
