Hall of Fame promoter and Top Rank chief Bob Arum has slammed what he saw from the Canelo vs GGG 2 pay per view this weekend.
Arum was disgusted with what he saw from the production team at HBO.
He pointed to the long breaks between the undercard and the main event after a series of early knockouts left those in the arena waiting around and those watching on TV also waiting.
He believes there should have been more planning.
Speaking on SiriusXM Boxing – Arum fumed:
“It was between an hour and a half and two hours (waiting for the main event). I have never seen anything like it. At the beginning they played an interview with Canelo and an hour later they played the interview again. It was the most horribly produced telecast for a big pay-per-view event that I’ve ever seen, and maybe it’s appropriate that the time is right for HBO to get out of boxing.”
The above does point to the limited nature of linear, traditional TV broadcasting in the now on demand and live world we live in because of digital advancements.
Fans get impatient easily and want things faster than ever before, relentlessly.
A streaming platform like DAZN for example allows everything to be captured live, stored on demand and does not need to be packaged into a scheduled TV slot.
