Network Bidding War For Golovkin Set To Take Place After Canelo Rematch

Gennady Golovkin takes on Canelo Alvarez this weekend but an impressive win could be bigger for his career than ever.

The LA Times have reported that this weekend’s rematch with Canelo is actually the last fight on his HBO contract for Golovkin.

Since moving to the US and boxing as a pro in the States Golovkin has been built on HBO under the guidance of his promoter Tom Loeffler.

They’ve done a fine job. No doubt about that.

But from a timing perspective with Bob Arum announcing a new deal with ESPN, Al Haymon doing a deal with Fox and Eddie Hearn doing a huge deal with DAZN, things could not be better for Golovkin.

Should he win in impressive fashion this weekend you’d have to think that all of the above networks will be bidding for the rights to show his fights in the US.

While Golovkin’s promoter Tom Loeffler tends to work with HBO with his fighters, that’s not to say someone like DAZN could not make a bid to show Golovkin’s fights next year after his HBO deal runs out this weekend.

Not long to go until the big fight this weekend.

Tune in here in a couple of hours time for the grand arrivals in Las Vegas.
