Boxing referee Steve Willis is known as a man who simply loves his job, to the point where he pulls some of the most hilarious faces and reactions during world title fights that you will see in boxing.
Willis is a top quality referee too of course.
Consistently involved in world title fights over the years his resume speaks for itself.
Usually referees don’t particular get famous in a sport like boxing but due to the advent of social media and Willis’ undeniable passion for his job, he’s become something of a cult figure in recent times.
During Shawn Porter and Danny Garcia’s WBC welterweight world title fight last night in New York Willis was up to his old tricks again:
Steve Willis, take a bow sir.
From a boxing perspective it was Shawn Porter who came away with the win and the title by unanimous points decision at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
Following the fight IBF champion Errol Spence Jr called Porter out for a showdown.
In theory, that shouldn’t be too hard to make in the new year with both guys on the same network and both managed by Al Haymon.
A great unification fight too.
Roll on the new season for the welterweight division.
