Josh Warrington of Leeds put on the fight of his life tonight against former IBF featherweight world champion Lee Selby – who was odds on with sports books to win going into the fight.
Warrington did not listen to that script however, he tore it up rather.
In a fight where his determination and relentless will to win came out, he pressured the former champion throughout and surprised many with his boxing ability in comparison to the man known as ‘The Welsh Mayweather’.
Selby suffered cuts in the contest but boxed on until the end when the scorecards read out a (strangely, it should have been unanimous) split decision verdict for the new champion from Leeds – Josh Warrington.
Here’s how the boxing world has been reacting so far:
Great fight great performance from Warrington.

I guess Warrington turned out to be the English Jose Luis Castillo to Selbys Welsh Mayweather #SelbyWarrington

Frampton-Warrington will be a good scrap. But Frampton wins easily #SelbyWarrington

Dunno how that’s ever a split decision but Warrington gets it:

Selby like James Degale has been way overrated by british fans over the years. Hardcores have too much bias towards the boxer versus the aggressive fighters

Warrington was relentless from the first bell. Proved all the doubters wrong tonight including myself. Great fight. And the judge who gave it to selby needs kicked out of that stadium #SelbyWarrington
