In an incredibly troubling report pertaining to amateur boxing that has been released a short time ago a journalist states that the sport of boxing could be removed from the upcoming Olympics in Tokyo.
The news that everyone was dreading appears to have a real chance of coming.
Since 2016 while professional boxing has thrived and grown around the world, amateur boxing under the guidance of AIBA has continued to move backwards, with the Olympic Committee threatening the removal of the sport time and time again until it was satisfied that AIBA could govern the amateur sport efficiently.
Well, it appears the Olympic Committee have finally nearly had enough with the following reported by journalist Danny Armstrong:
BREAKING: Boxing excluded from Olympic programme at Tokyo 2020 Games because of #AIBA corruption claims #boxing

#IOC president Thomas Bach confirms boxing excluded from Tokyo 2020, but not from Youth Games in Argentina this year #boxing

Press conference ongoing, Bach’s comments to be confirmed at end of conference #confrimed

However the comments have now been clarified:
CORR: After lack of clarity in comments, Bach says IOC ‘reserves right to exclude AIBA’ but matter will be reviewed in July, with organisation ‘making progress’

While boxing is not out of the dark just yet at an Olympic level, lets hope this can be fixed come July.
