Tony Bellew trainer Dave Coldwell perhaps hit the nail on the head better than anyone tonight following a thrilling fight between Oscar Valdez and Scott Quigg.
The fight almost didn’t go ahead in the end due to Quigg not only missing weight, but then refusing to do a same day weigh in check on fight day.
Valdez however, a classy operator, did not use this as an excuse before, during or after the fight and went about his business.
Ultimately getting a unanimous points decision after suffering a lost tooth and broken jaw – but leaving Quigg with a broken nose.
This perhaps sums the fight up best:
Valdez is class.
Making no issue of the weight.
Fact is tho, he made the weight while Quigg had a head start by coming in 3lb over & the only thing that made that tough for him was Quigg’s strength & size.
Classy champion, even more of a fan of his now. ?? #ValdezQuigg— Dave Coldwell (@davidcoldwell) March 11, 2018
Valdez improved his record to 24-0-19KO with the win tonight and at still only 27 years of age, this exciting Mexican boxing talent and world champion still has plenty of time to reach his prime just yet.
A class act. In and out of the ring.
