George Groves has responded to remarks made by Eubank Jr after their fight that appeared to suggest he had intentionally head butted Eubank Jr in the fight.
After the fight Eubank Jr also said he thought he did enough to ‘nick the fight’.
Not many were in agreement however.
He also mentioned that the referee should have taken points off of Groves for headbutt fouls.
Speaking on British television, Groves responded to the claims by saying:
“The cuts were down to a clash of heads. I’ve got a tiny little nick above my eye as well because of a clash of heads. And you see there is a slow mo at the end of the second round when he does get cut.”
He continued:
“He launches in at me and because I’m not green, I know what he’s doing and so I make sure he doesn’t catch me face first and doesn’t end up cutting himself on my head because of his recklessness. There was obviously no intentional headbutts. I’m not that kind of fighter.”
Groves now goes on to the final of the World Boxing Super Series in June pending the all clear on a shoulder injury suffered at the weekend.
He should know the results of the injury scans this week at the latest.
