Pound for pound rated fight wizard Terence Crawford could very well have a future opponent after this weekend in a chance meeting backstage at a boxing event in the US.
Crawford recently made the move to go up to welterweight (147lbs) and compete with some of the sport’s best in the division.
Next up Crawford will fight for the WBO welterweight championship of the world against Jeff Horn at Madison Square Garden in New York on April 14th.
A good intro fight for Crawford to the division in that it presents an immediate world title shot and a fight he’ll be heavy favorite in too.
After that however it was thought that outside of Manny Pacquiao other fights might prove difficult for Crawford to land with many of his rivals boxing on a different TV network.
He’s been keeping his options open though and this encounter with one Jose Benavidez this weekend back stage surely now has added another potential opponent to the list in the division (hat tip Fight Hype YouTube):
With the two sharing the same promoter this will not be a hard contest to make realistically.
The key question for fight fans will surround if Crawford can land the really big fights in the division in the coming years against the likes of Errol Spence, Keith Thurman and Danny Garcia.
