Welterweight Amir Khan reveals an approach from members of team Pacquiao on the day he announces a new deal with Eddie Hearn that will run for three fights initially.
Khan seems to be a man in demand at the moment following the recent reality TV show stint in Australia and now his promising prospects once again in his boxing career.
Talks of an Adrien Broner fight have frequented social media in recent days but there’s a few options being looked at at the moment.
Speaking to James Helder of IFL TV, Khan said:
“You’ve also got Manny Pacquiao. There’s a lot of talk about that fight (behind the scenes).”
He added:
“I know that can happen. I’ve had a lot of calls saying – would you fight Manny Pacquiao saying – let’s make it happen. I’ve had Manny’s team on the phone. Now I’ll just leave it to Eddie (Hearn). Let him do all that now. He’s the promoter. I’m going to say, listen, let’s get that fight done.”
He concluded:
“There’s a lot of history there (with Pacquiao). We used to work together. Train together. Spar together.”
Pacquiao has been looking for a fight this last while after losing his WBO welterweight title last year in an upset win by Australian Jeff Horn, with reports even suggesting that Pacquiao wanted Irish UFC fighter Conor McGregor in a boxing match this year.
An Amir Khan fight seems more likely than that, without a shadow of a doubt.
By all accounts this could be Pacquiao’s last year in boxing – an Amir Khan fight would be a fun one to bow out with.
