Watch: Kovalev Bounces Back From Ward Losses With 2nd Round KO

Kovalev Bounces Back From Ward

Sergey Kovalev bounces back from Ward defeats to regain the WBO light-heavyweight title with an impressive second round knockout.

“The Krusher” erased his two defeats to American Andre Ward from his memory via trademark power behind some decent boxing skills in New York.

His opponent from the Ukraine Shabranskyy never really got a chance to get going in truth – knocked down a total of four times on route to getting stopped in only the second round.

The bout opened up with a battle of the jabs, both jostling for position. Shabransky looked to be doing well in this regard until a massive right hand counter dropped him and scrambled his senses.

He bravely got back to his feet but it wasn’t long before he was down again from another big right hand, just before the end of round one on this occasion.

He managed to hang on and clinch Kovalev to wait out the bell but the writing was on the wall.

Kovalev sensed blood and moved in for the kill in the second round. More on the front foot this time and walking his man down.

He knocked him down again and proceeded to batter the Ukraine fighter with the kitchen sink that eventually prompted the referee to step in and call off proceedings:
