Boxer Amir Khan explains decision behind entering the popular TV show known as ‘I’m A Celebrity – Get Me Out Of Here!’
UK fighter Amir Khan has made a lot of news in recent days following first his reconciliation with his wife, that he himself made public on Twitter following reports that the pair were due to get a divorce.
Then, just a couple of days on from that, Khan has turned up in Brisbane Australia ahead of this year’s ‘I’m A Celebrity – Get Me Out Of Here!’ competition.
The show has featured boxers in the past. Most notably the likes of Chris Eubank, David Haye and Nigel Benn:
Speaking to The Sun, Khan outlined his motivation for joining the show:
“I’ll be training while I’m here. I’ll probably go for nice jogs and try to keep out of trouble.”
The trouble refers to a torrid year and half both in and out of the ring. First starting with a move up to the middleweight division in May of 2015.
The move up in so many weight classes was widely questioned at the time. Particularly against such a big puncher as Mexican boxing star Canelo Alvarez.
The result was a demolition knockout inside the distance in Las Vegas that night.
One that Khan has said he has recovered from physically. He has also undergone successful surgeries on an persistent injury since then.
Khan has said that he aims to box twice in 2018 in February and April, but it has hard to see how such a quick turnaround could be possible – in terms of back to back fights.
Particularly after then coming off this reality TV show, too.
Should Khan not return to the ring by next April it will have nearly been two years since he competed as a boxer.
He was slated to have fought Manny Pacquiao earlier in the 217 but talks collapsed following a lack of finance from the proposed planners of the event in the middle-East.
