The Boxing History Reason Behind Anthony Joshua Ring Robe vs Takam

The Anthony Joshua ring robe was inspired by a legendary fighter of the past as per this special feature on the heavyweight champion.

A couple of weeks removed from the Anthony Joshua vs Carlos Takam fight – Showtime have brought out an interesting short post-fight special feature on the UK heavyweight champion.

Like many fighters of the modern era, Joshua was inspired by great champions that went before him.

This clip via the Showtime YouTube channel (hat tip) illustrates where the Anthony Joshua ring robe idea came from:

Indeed, Joshua has spoken of his admiration for the great Muhammad Ali on many occasions.

He now faces the challenge of trying to make a boxing legacy of his own in the current era and face the other champions and top fighters at the weight over the coming years.

The likes of Deontay Wilder and Tyson Fury appear to be emerging from the pack as his main two rivals, with the trio forming a knew rivalry of the modern era among top tier heavyweights.

If all of three of the above were to fight one another at least once each over the next couple of years – boxing can only benefit as a sport in this writer’s view.
