Straight after her world title triumph, here is the official Katie Taylor reaction to the news on the Irish national broadcaster.

Ireland’s golden girl Katie Taylor thrilled millions of Irish around the world tonight as she became world champion in her very first 12 months in the pro ranks.

The former Olympic and world amateur champion fought her heart out to beat former Argentinian champion Sanchez over the course of ten-two minute rounds.

Straight after the fight she gave her immediate reaction to Ireland’s national TV broadcaster, RTE:

For those who know who RTE are, Irish in Ireland and the many more Irish around the world, the above might come across as a tad ironic.

RTE have not showing professional boxing on Irish TV sets for close to a decade dating back to former bantamweight world champion Bernard Dunne’s era.

But one can forgive bandwagon jumping tonight, surely, after what was such an incredible win not just for Irish sport, but global women’s sport and boxing, of which Taylor represents as well as any female boxer.

It is understood that a homecoming in Dublin is in play for 2018 as is an increased presence in the US – of which over 30 million Irish-Americans call home.
