Speaking at the WBC annual convention this week in Baku, the organisation ordered Mikey Garcia vs Jorge Linares next up as a mandatory with Garcia currently holding the WBC lightweight belt.

Garcia moved up to light-welterweight in his last fight in a bout where he beat Adrien Broner earlier this summer in a unanimous decision in Brooklyn.

He will return to lightweight to defend his belt against Jorge Linares.

Linares fought only last week against England’s Luke Campbell where he came through an extremely close bout to walk away with a hard fought split decision win.

The WBC went through all their upcoming mandatory defences for all their champions during the order of ceremony on the day.

Other notable champions and fighters included Keith Thurman at welterweight, who when he returns from injury, will face the winner of his mandatory contender Shawn Porter vs Adrian Granados in November.

WBC light-heavyweight champion Adonis Stevenson will also fight his mandatory in December against Eleider Alvarez.
