Anthony Joshua or Canelo – Who’s The Bigger Star In World Boxing?

A recent comparison was brought up between Anthony Joshua or Canelo that got his thinking. Both are big stars, but, who’s bigger?

When it comes to pay per view stars in boxing in terms of who drive the most, both of the above probably lead the way for sheer star power in boxing now that Floyd Mayweather has retired.

Canelo’s huge Mexican and American fan base will have likely played a massive role in his recent fight with Gennady Golovkin doing just under 2 million pay per view buys in the US.

No figures have been officially released as of yet of course, but the above is a conservative estimate based on Canelo’s promoter Golden Boy recently clarifying in the media that the event is expected to do well North of what was initially reported as 1.4 million buys.

Anthony Joshua’s pay per view buys are a little more complex on the other hand.

Initially, a UK boxing star, he’s now become a big star everywhere around the world with Showtime in the US promoting the English-based heavyweight champion of the world heavily on their American network.

His fight with Wladimir Klitschko last April sold an incredible 90,000 tickets too at Wembley stadium, which surely must be factored into who’s the bigger star in world boxing debate.

On the other hand, following Canelo’s controversial fight with Gennady Golovkin, expect the part two to be even bigger than their first.

So, all in all, what do you think? Who’s the bigger star in world boxing? Feel free to reach out with your opinion on social media.
