The first Katie Taylor World Title shot has been officially confirmed today and it has come on a huge platform for her.
One of the greatest female boxers of the modern boxing era as an amateur has now landed her first significant opportunity in the pro ranks.
Ireland’s Golden girl and former Olympic champion Katie Taylor will do battle on Anthony Joshua’s upcoming world heavyweight title card where the heavyweight champion defends against Kubrat Pulev of Bulgaria on October 28th.
Taylor will fight two weight World Champion Anahi Sanchez for the WBA title at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff, Wales.
A stadium that holds more than 80,000 people.
Indeed, it’s a massive opportunity for Taylor that has come very early in his pro career too – having only turned pro last year in November 2016.
It’s not against a pushover either – a further display of confidence from her handlers that she is more than capable of delivering on the big stage in a tough test.
31 year old Katie Taylor is currently 6-0 (4KO) as a professional with her last fight coming back in July when she stopped Jasmine Clarkson inside the distance at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
Anahi Esther Sanchez from Argentina holds a current professional record of 17-2-9KO and comes into the contest with two back to back stoppage wins.
