David Haye Eyes December Return Following Bellew Loss

Former heavyweight champion David Haye eyes a return to the boxing ring in December 2017 and speaks on overcoming injury.

David Haye has not fought since last March when he suffered a shock stoppage defeat the British heavyweight Tony Bellew at the O2 Arena in London.

During the bout Haye injured his Achilles tendon and could be seen essentially boxing on one leg for a number of rounds before Bellew stopped him.

Haye has been busy training and recovering in recent months and more recently has let WBO heavyweight champion train at his gym in London ahead of the New Zealander’s latest defence against Hughie Fury in Manchester later this month.

Speaking in a TV interview on Sky Sports News, Haye explained when he’s looking to be back and how the injury has been coming along:

“I’ll fight in December. I’m working on it now. I’ve made sure that my foot is nice an healed. After I had reconstructive surgery on my Achilles tendon snapped.”

He added:

“Its been six months since my operation. I’m feeling really good. Come December I’ll be firing on all cylinders. I’m just looking forward to announcing something pretty soon.”

Haye parted company with former trainer Shane McGuigan earlier this year and will box for the first time under world champion Jorge Linares’ trainer – Ismael Salas when he does return.

Cuban trainer Salas is thought to be one of the most technically gifted trainers in world boxing today.

According to Haye, the pair have been working well together focusing on Haye’s technique in recent times.

David Haye currently holds a professional boxing record of 28-3-26KO.
