Golovkin promoter Tom Loeffler weighs in on comments from Conor McGregor that GGG came into his fight camp for Canelo Alvarez out of shape.

In just over one month’s time the world will find out who truly is the best middleweight boxer on the planet.

Gennady ‘GGG’ Golovkin and Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez will square off on September 16th in a fight for the IBF, IBO, WBA (Super) and WBC world middleweight titles at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

A certain Conor McGregor recently spoke of current fighters and boxers of the past he admires at a media day workout, but also mentioned he thought Gennady Golovkin came into his fight camp for Canelo badly out of shape.

Following an international media conference call today ahead of the Golovkin vs Canelo fight, we wanted to get Gennady Golovkin’s promoter Tom Loeffler’s response who told Boxing News and Views:

“Gennady is one of the hardest working athletes I have ever seen. He takes every fight very seriously and that’s why he has the highest KO% in the history of the middleweight division with never been knocked down in sparring or in a fight. GGG doesn’t balloon up in weight between fights, that’s why he doesn’t have to go through a big weight cut and is always way under the WBC 30 day weight limit.”

He added:

“GGG is very motivated by this fight as he realizes this is not only the biggest fight of his career, but also the winner will be at the top of the sport of boxing. This is the fight that he has been working for since he turned professional, so I see an extra sparkle of motivation for this fight. I was just in camp last week and GGG is currently in tremendous shape in high altitude and ready for his sparring that will start this week with 4 weeks to go before this fight.”

Gennady Golovkin currently holds a professional boxing record of 37-0-33KO whilst his Mexican counterpart Canelo Alvarez possesses a pro record of 49-1-1-34KO.
