Vasyl Lomachenko puts his WBO super-featherweight title on the line this weekend against Jason Sosa as the two-weight world champion closes in on the pound for pound number one spot.

In fact, some people (here’s our top 10 pound for pound rankings) think he’s already there after super-flyweight Roman kingpin Roman Gonzalez’s recent loss.

But a spectacular win this weekend in Maryland would most definitely go a long way to solidifying that in many fans’ eyes.

Lomachenko is getting down to business this week ahead of a fight that in many ways he is expected to win comfortably, given his stellar reputation and performances so far as a professional.

Sosa is no slouch though. He has only ever tasted defeat once (early on in his career too).

His last outing in the ring back in November when he outpointed Stephen Smith will be more than enough to gain the respect of Lomachenko coming into this weekend’s bout.

If the Ukraine boxing phenom were to churn in another impressive victory this weekend, one would suspect he would then be in a position for a considerable fight in the summer.

First thing is first though, as they say.
