Asian Boxing: 2017 Dream Fights Show Set To Be Announced

Fans in the UK may be well aware that the British Boxing Board of Control (BBBofC) is under threat from several smaller organisations who have began to sanction bouts in the UK, such as the British & Irish Boxing Authority (BIBA).

Asian boxing update ahead of 2017

Within Asian boxing in Korea things are even more complicated with the Korean Boxing Commisison (KBC), Korean Boxing Federation (KBF), Korean Boxing Association (KBA), Korea Pro Boxing Federation (KPBF) and BoxingM all sanctioning bouts and fighters and essentially splitting the talent in the country, with fighters effectively stuck fighting under one banner.

The latest of those to be set up was BoxingM, who set up last year with a lot of money behind them and whilst their shows haven’t been huge they have instantly had an effect on the Korean boxing scene by throwing money around, in a similar way to what the PBC did in the US.

That money has seemingly had a knock on effect and those in charge of the KBF and the KBC have, in the wake of the BoxingM formation, agreed to host a co-promoted show featuring fighters from both organisations facing off in a series of bouts.

The show is set to take place on January 22nd in Incheon with MBC Sports + airing the show which will feature a reported 11 bouts in total. Not all of the contests will be KBC Vs KBF but the top 3 bouts will be, and will be very interesting bouts with top fighters from both bodies facing off.

The main event of the show will see Sa Myung Noh (9-2, 2) battle against see Nam Joon Lee (8-5-3, 4).

Noh is on a 5 fight winning streak since losing bouts to Jin Wook Lim and Ye Joon Kim in 2012 and 2013, and has a very notable win over Teiru Atsumi from 2014.

On paper Lee looks like a huge under-dog here but he has picked up notable international experience with losses to Qiu Xiao Jun and Masatoshi Kotani, and will make for a very competitive bout.

The main under-card bout comes at Welterweight weight and is scheduled for 8 rounds with 18 year old I Hoon Jung (5-2-1, 4) battling the unbeaten In Duck Seo (7-0, 4) whilst the other main support bout will see the unbeaten Kyung Hwan Song (3-0, 1) battling Yo Han Bae (7-2-1, 1).

The show will officially announced on Monday, January 9th, at a press conference in Seoul with the show being termed “2017 Dream Fights” .
