Mikey Garcia Added To Exciting Frampton vs Santa Cruz Rematch Bill

The ultra talented Mikey Garcia added to what looks to be a mouthwatering night of boxing action in early new year for fight fans.

Boxing is a funny old game in that when it looks like nothing is happening or nothing is on the radar, lots of news tends to bundle in all at once to restore hope and faith.

Today has been one of those days in some regards.

Earlier Carl Frampton announced that he would be taking on Leo Santa Cruz in a rematch following their thrilling fight earlier this year.

It has since emerged that the fight is set for January 28th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas – so fans won’t have long to wait from the time of announcement too (for once).

But things just got a whole lot better, as journalist Lance Pugmire has now reported that the always explosive and exciting Mikey Garcia will also be on the card (likely as the co-main event) in a world title fight:

Music to the ears of boxing fans indeed. An excellent show to look forward to.

Garcia’s opponent Dejan Zlaticanin (22-0-15KO) will be the reigning WBC lightweight champion in the fight and is an excellent fighter from Montenegro.

This will mark his second big fight in the States since winning the title originally back in June over Franklin Mamani via TKO in Verona, New York.

Garcia (35-0-29KO) has been on a blaze in boxing these past few years but will have to be at his very best to take down the champion.

For those not familiar with Garcia’s pugilistic exploits, this quick highlight video from the HBO YouTube channel (hat tip) recounts some of his earlier greatest hits.

Don’t blink by the way. This man packs quite the punch:
