Thurman and Spence Slam Danny Garcia’s Choice of Opponent

Keith Thurman and Spence Jr. are one of many who have come out criticising Danny Garcia’s latest opponent choice for his next bout.

It was announced that Garcia (32-0-18KO) will face relatively unknown Samuel Vargas in his next bout which will take place on November 12th at the Liacouras Center in his Garcia’s hometown of Philadelphia.

Garcia had been linked to a number of big fights this year including with names such as Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao, so this news caused a bit of unrest amongst fans and indeed some of his closest American boxing rivalries.

WBA welterweight champion Keith Thurman (27-0-22KO) put together this rather colourful photo shop of Garcia on his Instagram account:

Enjoy your last cherry of the year … I’ll be waiting to take that green belt in 2017! #OneTime #KOs4Life #2Belts #Unification #2017

The obvious claim from Thurman being that Garcia is ‘cherry picking’ opponents and avoiding the most dangerous fights.

Unbeaten welterweight sensation Errol Spence was not to be left out of the party either and had this to say on his Twitter account about Garcia:

Danny say I have to pay my dues but he fighting somebody I knocked out already ?

Garcia has not responded to either of the two men above but has come in for a lot of fury from fans online who are not happy with his opponent selection.

This fury has continued to come this year after a video emerged at one point that showed his father and trainer Angel Garcia openly admitting they do not always choose the best fighters for Garcia to face unless and always prioritise the financial incentives in making a fight.

2017 will surely see Garcia in a big fight again though. As things stand he still has not boxed since last January against Robert Guerrero.
