Professional boxing (male and female) may have some lineal world champions or those who are recognised as the division’s best by the vast majority, but there is only one undisputed world champion out there right now that holds all the WBC, WBO, WBA, IBF and IBO belts, and you may not have even heard of her before.
The sweet science’s only active undisputed world champion is Norwegian woman Cecilia Braekhus (28-0-7KO) who campaigns at welterweight in female professional boxing.
We came across Cecilia last year when speaking to her promoter Tom Loeffler of K2 Promotions initially, her story is a unique one that not many may know of who follow men’s pro boxing.
Not many might be aware of too, that professional boxing was actually banned as a sport in her native Norway up until 2014 when after years of work and lobbying against the ban from Cecilia and other members of the boxing community in Norway, it was finally lifted.
Cecilia has subsequently gone on to headline the first professional boxing show in Norway since 1981 and is regarded by many today as the world’s best pound for pound professional female boxer.
This weekend she returns to action when she takes on Anne Sophie Mathis in Oslo in her native country of Norway. The 34 year old will look to defend her remarkable hall of all five world title belts yet again.
