Golovkin and Roman Gonzalez Weekend American TV Ratings Released

Gennady Golovkin and Roman Gonzalez US TV numbers on HBO are out following the pound for pound rated duo’s latest fights last weekend.

Both men promoted by Tom Loeffler of K2 Promotions, were involved in big fights on either side of the pond this past weekend, with Golovkin scoring a 5th round stoppage win over Englishman Kell Brook in London and Gonzalez becoming a four-weight world champion by defeating Carlos Cuadras via unanimous decision in California.

The fight in the UK was shown during the day in the US and produced the following numbers on HBO according to respected journalist Kevin Iole:

The GGG fight Saturday registered 843k viewers live, peaking at 907k. The late night replay added 593k viewers.

He also commented on the Roman Gonzalez numbers:

FWIW, Chocolatito did well. He averaged 833k live and peaked at 951k

Overall, those numbers are not that bad for a premium cable service, considering also the fact the Golovkin would have been on at an earlier time as he was fighting in the UK.

Speculation has been mounting recently however about how much longer HBO will be heavily involved in the sport of boxing after dropping Manny Pacquiao.

This could have just been a simple economic decision however, given the fact that they are showing Kovalev vs Ward in November as well.
