WBC President Wants Joshua vs Wilder When It Can Be Made

A Joshua vs Wilder fight in 2017 would likely generate massive interest worldwide.

They are two of the new generation of elite heavyweight boxers, that seem to be on an almost inevitable collision course should they both keep winning.

However, it might have to wait a little while as Deontay Wilder is currently recovering from an injury to his bicep and shoulder which has caused for an interim fight for his title to be made.

Alexander Povetkin vs Bermane Stiverne has been ordered by the WBC for the interim heavyweight title while he recovers.

After that, Wilder you would imagine will need to fight the winner but then after that, a big unification with Anthony Joshua has been called for.

WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman when asked by Sky Sports News recently about would he like to see the fight said against WBC champion Deontay Wilder said:

“Absolutely. Joshua is a very important fighter for the WBC, he conquered the WBC international (belt). The WBC was the first organisation to rank him. We understand he had a great opportunity to challenge for another organisation (IBF), he was number two in the WBC at the time.”

He added:

“I know he is one of the greatest fighters out there today and the future of boxing.”

What a fight it will be when it does eventually happen – two explosive undefeated heavyweights also pitting the old boxing rivalry of the UK vs USA against each other, in a world heavyweight title unification.

Boxes ticked? Bingo.

But as we all know, one punch can change it all in the heavyweight division and it will be up to both men to remain unbeaten.
