Holly Holm Wins Guinness World Record, First Fighter To Win World Titles In Boxing And MMA

UFC star Holly Holm has been officially recognised by the Guinness Book of World Records for becoming the first athlete ever to win recognised world championships in both the sport of boxing and mixed martial arts.

A considerable feat that might take some beating, when you consider the vast difference between the two sports’ skill sets and training regimes, and the time it takes for an athlete from either discipline to try to adapt to the other sport.

There have been many examples of things well, just not working out for those who have.

A famous example is when Hall of Fame boxer James Toney attempted to fight Randy Couture in the UFC, falling victim to an almost instant first round tap out.

But the same can be said if an MMA fighter were try to step into the squared circle with a high level professional boxer, it would be a gruesome ending.

This to me, makes Holm’s accomplishment all the more impressive.

She became a multiple weight champion in female boxing before making the decision in recent years to hop over the MMA cage and step into the UFC, famously defeating Ronda Rousey with a head kick for the UFC world title as her biggest victory to date.

Since becoming acclaimed as a UFC fighter, Holm has gone on record for her criticism of the boxing media during her time in boxing – feeling she never got the proper recognition for her considerable achievements in the sport.

Speaking on being awarded the Guinness Book of World Records gong on her Facebook page, Holm said:

“Something I dreamed of….. To be the first fighter to hold titles in both boxing and MMA. I just received my Guiness book of world records today. I am proud…. However, I would definitely be more proud to still be holding the title I lost. This is a reminder for me to keep pushing forward. I have passion for this life. I still dream of success in everything I do. It’s the only way I know how to live. So I will keep learning and improving and working to be back on top. Thank you to everyone who has supported my career and who continues to support me. I hope you all have a blessed day.”
