Eddie Hearn: I’ve Always Felt Kell Brook Is Unbeatable

Confidence is a great thing no doubt about it. Eddie Hearn has said he feels his fighter Kell Brook is unbeatable, but, is anyone truly unbeatable?

Eddie as a promoter is understandably in full flow this week promoting the biggest fight in the UK of the year, arguably the biggest boxing match internationally of 2016 so far when world boxing star Gennady Golovkin squares off at middleweight with the UK’s Kell Brook.

But could he be a tad overconfident in his man, Kell Brook? I’ve followed Kell’s career from the start and without doubt when he is on form he’s formidable, but feeling he is unbeatable might be stretching it, a tad.

Then again though, who really is unbeatable? Does such a notion actually exist is reality? Probably not.

In the past it had been mooted behind the scenes that Kell at times in his career had struggled with confidence from but having become world champion, overcome significant adversity in life since winning the belt and probably being in the prime of his fighting life without needing to worry about making weight as much this Saturday, I don’t think confidence will be an issue for him against Golovkin.

His promoter Eddie Hearn is banging the confidence drum big time for his charge going into the fight this weekend. Speaking to Kugan Cassius of IFL TV, Hearn said:

“If he loses this fight, Kell Brook, it wasn’t because he was too small in the fight, it was because he wasn’t good enough. But Kell Brook for a long time I’ve always felt, that Kell Brook is unbeatable.”

He added:

“I believe Kell Brook is pound for pound one of the best fighters in the world. I 100% believe that he can beat Gennady Golovkin. It is a monster task. There are things that have got to happen in the fight. Kell has got to be absolutely outstanding. But he can be outstanding.”

There will be a combined total of 71 unbeaten professional boxing wins (and also 57 combined knockouts) going into the ring this weekend, with Brook actually being a pro two years longer than Golovkin who at age 30 will also enjoy a slight youth advantage of 4 years over 160lbs destroyer ‘GGG’.

Golovkin brings into the fight a 22 straight knockout streak dating back to 2008.
