Sugar Ray Leonard Pays Heartfelt Message To Shakur Stevenson

Shakur Stevenson might be feeling understandably low at the moment having lost out on Olympic Gold by the slightest of margins, but one of the sport’s great legends has had some genuinely encouraging words for the talented southpaw.

Stevenson lost by the narrowest of margins to Cuba’s highly accomplished and more experienced Robeisy Ramirez in the Olympic final yesterday, who just edged the contest in the end.

But the future appears to be bright for Stevenson, who is just 19 years old, after it emerged during the Olympics that Floyd Mayweather is set to sign him as a pro after the games.

Further big praises have come flooding in for the American too, with Sugar Ray Leonard posting this on social media for Stevenson yesterday:

The skills the American put on display this year in Rio without doubt make him a man to watch for the future in the pro ranks.

If history is anything to go by, in terms of American fighters who lost out in the Olympics such as Roy Jones Jr, Evander Holyfield and Floyd Mayweather and then went on to have stellar prizefighting careers, then Stevenson’s professional career could be very exciting indeed.
