Paulie Malignaggi: Boxing Is Like A Bad Girlfriend, She’s Broken My Heart and Will Do It Again

Paulie Malignaggi returns to action this Saturday night when he takes on welterweight Gabriel Bracero at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

The ‘Magic Man’ (35-7-7KO) will take on a fellow Brooklyn fighting son in Bracero this weekend – so expect one hell of an atmosphere is expected come fight time.

Paulie Malignaggi has had a long career in the pro ranks that has seen him fight some of the best fighters available to him in and around his weight, including the likes of Miguel Cotto, Amir Khan, Danny Garcia, Shawn Porter, Adrien Broner and Ricky Hatton, to name a few.

In recent times he’s forged a successful broadcasting career for himself outside the ring due to his candid, colourful and energetic personality.

However peaking to Showtime ahead of his latest in ring venture this weekend, the New Yorker insists his love is still for fighting in the ring – even at now 35 years of age:

“I know fighters get hurt but I also know in my heart I gotta fight, at least one more time. Why? I’ll tell you. Love.”

He continued:

“Not the normal kind no. More like a bad girlfriend. She’s broken my heart, she’ll do it again and I keep coming back for more. I love her despite her treacherous. My mind knows better but my heart doesn’t and it was my heart that got me here in the first place.”

Paulie Malignaggi fights on a bumper bill in New York this weekend that also features the likes of Mikey Garcia and is headlined by the WBA featherweight title fight between Leo Santa Cruz and Carl Frampton.
