The colorful American has been in typically entertaining voice this week ahead of his latest bout this weekend on the undercard of David Haye's show at London's O2 Arena. 44 year old American Briggs (59-6-1-52KO) will take on Argentinian Emilio Ezequiel Zarate in a ten round bout this weekend, in a fight he is expected to win in truth, but it…
David Haye Donates £100,000 To Retired Boxer Nick Blackwell
Former WBA Heavyweight Champion David Haye donates a large sum of money to Nick Blackwell in a classy move to help out the ex-fighter.
Haye, who came in for some extensive criticism (from me included) following his last fight and event on Channel Dave where he blew out a vastly overmatched Arnold Gjergjaj in quick fashion, today has lived up to his promise of donating at least 10% of that event’s ticket sales to help out ex-boxer Nick Blackwell.
As many will remember, Blackwell was involved in a tragic incident earlier this year in the boxing ring with middleweight Chris Eubank Jr, where Blackwell suffered a bleed on the brain and had to be placed in an induced coma afterwards.
To the delight of boxing fans everywhere however, Nick was taken out of that coma and has now made a full and healthy recovery.
Prior to Haye’s last bout, the man from London vowed to help out Blackwell and today it has emerged from ITV that indeed Haye is a man of his word.
Blackwell will not fight again and no doubt this £100,000 will be a massive help for him and his family as he moves on to the next chapter in his life.
I for one have to say fair play David Haye, nice touch.
David Haye is expected to next return to the ring at some point in September, where it has been heavily rumoured that he will take on American Shannon Briggs at the O2 Arena.
