Pulev Too Classy For Chisora Over 12 Rounds

Kubrat Pulev’s boxing skills were to be the deciding factor for the European title in Hamburg, Germany.

Despite a lot of pre-fight energy and antics exhibited by Chisora the week of the fight, it was Pulev who had the last laugh in the ring.

It was a fast start from Pulev, who landed some eye catching right hands straight out of the blocks against Chisora – who looked a bit open. The Pulev jab proved to be crisp and powerful in the 2nd round, showing his class.

Chisora struggled to close the range in the third but it was a closer round than the first two, perhaps edged by the work rate of Chisora, who was employing rough and tough tactics during a scrappy three minutes.

Round 4 was a good one for Pulev, who established that he is was control of the fight by this point. Round 5 saw more of the same as Pulev backed Chisora onto the ropes at times.

Round 6 was perhaps the best round of the fight for Chisora, up to this point, who stunned Pulev momentarily while he was on the back foot via a decent right hand.

The Bulgarian recovered well however and despite a cut over his left eye, landed some good right hands yet again near the end of the round on Chisora.

Chisora kept trying to jab to the body in the 7th round, but Pulev’s sense of distance and use of the straight right hand and right uppercut – proved to be too hard to get inside of for Chisora.

As the fight came down the stretch Chisora really gave it a go, particularly in the 9th when he threw a lot of punches and won the round on work rate alone in my opinion.

However, as the final rounds progressed of the bout, Pulev proved to be just that much bit better than his English counterpart, ultimately winning the European title on the night via a comfortable unanimous points decision over a game as always ‘Delboy’ – who perhaps is now passed his best.

The final scorecards ran out 116-112 in favour of Pulev, 115-113 in favour of Chisora and 118-110 in favour of Kubrat Pulev who won via split decision.

The Swiss judge who scored the fight in favour of Chisora was a bizarre decision, to say the least.
