WBO world middleweight champion Billy Joe Saunders has sustained an injury in the run up to his latest world title defense which has forced him out.

Billy Joe Saunders (23-0-12KO) has been forced out of his upcoming April 30th showdown with Mateusz Masternak through injury: Billy Joe Saunders Injured

Saunders was quoted as saying today:

“I’m bitterly disappointed. This is boxing and these things happen.”

There has been speculation previously that a summer showdown with Gennady Golovkin could be in play in the UK which would see a unification of both’s men’s middleweight titles, but will obviously now be dependent on the extent of Billy’s injury.

Saunders won his WBO middleweight title last December with a points decision over Irish Andy Lee.
