Anthony Joshua Sings Praises Of Conor McGregor

The UK heavyweight boxing sensation has had complimentary words for Irish UFC star Conor McGregor.

The two sports of boxing and MMA (mixed martial arts) occasionally cross over every once in a while when mentions come up between their stars.

Unbeaten British heavyweight Anthony Joshua (15-0-15KO) is set to fight next on April 9th at the O2 Arena in London, against a yet to be named opponent (that is expected to be announced very soon).

There’s been a host of heavyweights calling out Joshua since his rise to fame, and indeed since his most recent big win live on Sky Box Office back in December over long time bitter rival and fellow Londoner – Dillian Whyte.

Speaking with the guys at IFL TV and touching on subjects away from heavyweights in boxing calling him out, Joshua spoke on what he thought of UFC sensation Conor McGregor and what his opinion of him was.

He started off by saying with a chuckle:

“He’s an Irish man and I’m a black man, that can fight, that’s all it is really. There’s no two ways about it, we are from fighting backgrounds, we’ve similar cultures and we fight, we’re just warriors mate and that’s what it comes down to.”

Joshua added:

“Yeah, I like Conor McGregor. ‘The Notorius’, I wish I took that name. I like it, I like everything about Conor McGregor. I like what he’s doing for the sport of UFC (MMA) as well and I you know, I hope he doesn’t lose because it’s a fickle world. One minute everyone’s on your back, you are the flavour of the month, you take a loss everyone writes you off. But he’s done a lot for his sport so far. So far he’s done unbelievably well for the sport of UFC (MMA) and I just hope he continues that, so long live Conor McGregor.”
