Mayweather and Schaefer Plotting Big Move in 2016

Former pound for pound boxing great Floyd ‘Money’ Mayweather and ex Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer look set to make some big noise in the boxing world this year.

Floyd Mayweather and Richard Schaefer always got along quite well, with Schaefer credited by many as been the driving force of Golden Boy’s success during his tenure at the company, in a time that saw many record breaking pay days for boxing events that featured Floyd Mayweather as the headlining act.

In recent years Schaefer has been out of the limelight however, forced to sit on the sidelines in the boxing business due to a clause in his former contract that basically stated he could not work for another boxing promotional business again after he finished up with Golden Boy for a certain period of time.

However the necessary time that he was needed to sit out for is fast drawing to an end, and he is expected to make a return in 2016 to the sport accordingly.

Many have suspected that a link up with Mayweather and indeed power player Al Haymon (Mayweather’s former manager) to be on the cards for Schaefer, and speaking in an interview with Luis Sandoval at Fight Hype, Mayweather said:

“I seen Richard Schaefer tonight, we talked. We’re about to do some big things together, look forward to working with Richard Schaefer. I can’t wait for Richard to be back in the sport, it’s going to be a great feeling with us working back together. He’s a great guy.”

There’s no doubt that the trio of Floyd Mayweather, Richard Schaefer and Al Haymon working together in some capacity in boxing would be a powerful mix.
