The ‘Filipino Flash’ captured the vacant WBO super bantamweight title in exciting fashion in Puerto Rico, after winning a real toe to toe battle with Cesar Juarez in Puerto Rico.
In a thrilling contest from start to end, Donaire came out on top after 12 dramatic rounds to win a unanimous decision.
Donaire dropped Juarez twice in the fourth round in what was a genuine slugfest at times, and surely a late fight of the year candidate for 2015.
The Donaire right and left hands were both equally punishing at times, but after dominating the first half of the fight, Juarez came back at Donaire in the second half with some quality work of his own.
Former ‘Fighter of the Year’ Donaire claimed his seventh world title with the victory, but a paid a physical price with a badly swollen eye, and was wearing sun glasses straight after the match in the post-fight press conference.
Donaire humbly paid tribute to God for the victory after the contest, along with his team, promoter and many others:
He now moves back to the top of the 122lbs pile with some excellent fights once again out there for him. In case you missed the action, here’s the Nonito Donaire vs Juarez full fight video:
