Unbeaten middleweight talent Liam Desmond (5-0) has been forced to withdraw from his forthcoming six-round contest on October 17th at Grays Civic Hall with Robert Studzinski (3-22) with a toe injury.

Injury
The 22-year-old from Corringham, Essex was due to enter into his sixth professional contest against the 38-year-old Pole but an ingrowing toenail and subsequent infection has forced him onto the side-lines.
He said, “I have had to pull out of my next fight with a surprising injury. I had an ingrowing toenail and it became infected so I haven’t been able to run or train on it for weeks.
“I’ve been off training and it appeared that I wasn’t going to be able to get back to any physical activity for at least another two weeks which is the vital time ahead of fight night for everything to come together.
“I have been to see a physio and he cut part of the toenail out. They have different angled scissors that can get underneath and cut around it. It’s a horrible sensation and it was so painful!“
Desmond was scheduled for his second six-rounder of his pro career following a comfortable points win over two-time Masters champion Chris Jenkinson in his last contest on June 20th this year.
Last time out
Referee Kieran McCann scored the contest at 59-55 to Desmond although he claims to have not boxed as well as he could have.
He admitted, “In my last fight, I couldn’t really get any power off in my shots because of the height difference. He was a frustrating lad and I had to hit lower with my punches and I couldn’t really load up against him.”
Desmond recently switched camps to train closer to home with long-time friend and fellow professional boxer Matt McCarthy at Gateway ABC with trainer Terry Coulter.
The West Ham fan commented, “There is another boxing show planned for December 3rd and there’s also one in February next year. It could do me good to have a bit of a rest with everything that’s been going on recently.”
Desmond scalped Liam Griffiths (3-37-1), Dee Mitchell (9-63-1), Kieran Gray (6-33-1), Rob Brown (1-0) and Chris Jenkinson (8-20-2) in his first 15 months in the paid ranks, following on from a successful amateur career winning 46 of 59 fights and collecting a Haringey Box Cup gold and silver medal, as well as a Swedish Box Cup silver medal.
“The fight will most likely be rescheduled so that I get the same opponent in Robert Studzinski and I’ll still attend the show on October 17th to support the rest of the boys fighting,” he concluded.
Card still going ahead on the 17th
The Carl Greaves Promotions show will still proceed with the main event scheduled between Southern Area champ Adam Dingsdale (13-2-1) and Kevin Hooper (17-3) for the vacant English lightweight title.
Both boxers come into the fight following back-to-back wins and this will be Hooper’s third crack at the English championship after losing out on the super-featherweight version twice back in 2013.
Former teammates Paul Hilz (1-1), Joe Jackson Brown (2-0) George Hennon (1-0) and Shaun Hussein (1-0-2) will all be appearing on the same bill.
Two debutants complete the line-up in welterweight John Wheatley from Harwich, Essex and Nigerian light-welterweight, Idris Hill.
