Huge Hole Left In Irish Boxing As Billy Walsh Leaves For America

Very sad news came this morning that has taken the Irish boxing community around the world by shock.

Long time Irish amateur boxing head coach and sadly now former head of the high performance squad Billy Walsh, has left his post ahead of the Rio Olympics – to take up a position as head of the American female amateur boxing program.

Indeed it comes as a bitter blow for Irish boxing but on the other hand, it is great news for Billy and American boxing, who have acquired an apex coach.

It is understood that Billy had asked for different changes to be implemented within Irish amateur boxing in recent times to the powers that be, that appeared to have fallen on deaf ears, it would seem.

It is also widely speculated that the ultra-talented Walsh was essentially been “head hunted” by different countries around the world, such is his skill and reputation in the game.

Billy achieved a phenomenal amount in Irish amateur boxing and is widely regarded as one of the major reason’s for Irish boxing success at an amateur level in recent times.

His tireless work behind the scenes and dedication to his craft will not be forgotten.

As an Irish owned publication, we would like to wish Billy all the very best on his new move.
