New Yorker Danny Jacobs defended his WBA world middleweight title against the always tough Sergio Mora from LA, but not before having to get up from the floor himself.

The fight started at a furious pace, with Jacobs dropping Mora in the very first round with a sharp right hand.

This didn’t deter Mora in the slightest however, who rose to his feet and instantly returned fire with a fast left hand counter that hurt the champion, putting him onto the seat of his pants.

After the action filled first round ended the second round continued in a similar vein, this time with Jacobs piling on the pressure.

After a ferocious series of combinations landed on Mora, he was on the floor again towards the end of the second round – this time appearing to hurt his leg on the way down.

He was unable to continue and the official time of the stoppage came at 2:55 in round 2.

Thoughts now turn to what could be next for Jacobs, with a potential clash against fellow New Yorker Peter Quillin mooted by “The Miracle Man” after the fight.

The 160lbs elephant in the room Gennady Golovkin could also make for a potential exciting unification later on in the year, should he get past his upcoming test against David Lemieux.
