News that will have Irish fight fans salivating.

It has been confirmed that Ireland’s favourite boxing daughter and Olympic Gold medalist Katie Taylor will feature on the undercard of the upcoming Andy Lee vs Billy Joe Saunders world middleweight title showdown in Thomond Park on September 19th.

It is understood that Taylor will face an opponent to be named over four, two minute rounds.

The event was already hugely historic in that it will mark the first time that two men from travelling backgrounds will contest for a professional world title, but this latest news has taken things to a new level.

To have Irish boxing’s two current brightest stars, and arguably biggest stars of the last decade or so boxing on the same bill, will mark probably one of the biggest nights in Irish boxing history at the upcoming outdoor event on September 19th.

There will also be the added spice of recent comments Andy Lee’s opponent Billy Joe Saunders made in an interview with IFL TV, pertaining to some rather controversial views on women’s boxing.

No doubt Katie Taylor will have some comments for the English challenger when the two meet in an upcoming press conference in the coming weeks.
