Adonis Stevenson vs Sakio Bika: Post-Fight Report Card

adonis stevenson vs sakio bika

It was never going to be anything short of a tough challenge for Adonis Stevenson to become the first man to stop the exceptionally tough Sakio Bika. And it didn’t prove possible as the Cameroonian once again heard the final bell in a world title defeat.

Stevenson dropped Bika twice on route to a rather oddly scored unanimous decision win. The three scoring judges saw it far closer that most observants with scores of 115-111, 115-110 and 116-110.

What was also odd for our cross Atlantic boxing fans was the timing of the show, mid afternoon Eastern Time in America, while it was aired at around 9pm over here in the UK. Certainly a plus for fans that were able to view it live, saving themselves from the usual very late night.

The action that took place in the ring was never going to set the world alight, with Adonis rather comfortable at range while Bika tried his upmost best to make the most scrappy of encounters as he possibly could.

Adonis was sharp with his left cross from the southpaw stance, but often became one dimensional once he noticed early in the contest that he could hurt the former Super Middleweight world champion when he landed clean.

The Australian resident was dropped in rounds 6 and 9 but was never in considerable trouble despite Stevenson’s obvious size and power advantage.

There were many rounds that were tight thanks to Bika’s ability to get inside and draw Stevenson into some rather scrappy proceedings, but all in all it was a comfortable afternoon for the Haitian-Canadian as he made his 5th defence of his WBC Light Heavyweight title.
