Mayweather vs McGregor Nearly

Mayweather vs McGregor nearly scuppered entirely it has emerged after a sparring partner was fouling Mayweather in training.

Keeping both athletes fit and healthy will no doubt be the main concern by everyone involved in the event – considering the gigantic amount of cash that’s involved in this fight.

The expression ‘wrap them in cotton wool’ springs to mind.

Although that’s a term that typically relates to soccer and other less contact based sports. It can’t be really applied in a sport as rigorous and tough as professional boxing.

Mayweather and McGregor will have no choice but to spar in the lead up to their August 26th money bonanza. However an early sparring partner it turns out had to be taken out of Mayweather’s way in the gym.

A coach at one of the gyms where Mayweather worked out last week, Ricky Funez, detailed an incident that happened during sparring to Fight Hype:

“It looks like the other sparring guy that was with him accidentally headbutts, you know, hitting him low. That’s a 200 million dollar fight, so I don’t think he wants to get cut or anything.”

Indeed a cut to either man in the coming weeks would be disastrous. Particularly after the protracted build-up that it took to actually get the fight signed.
