Boxing trainer Cus D’Amato could be coming to the big screen soon to highlight his amazing career and life.
When talking great boxing coaches, boxing trainer Cus D’Amato always has his name at least mentioned and is remembered fondly in fight circles.
It is understood that world revered actor Anthony Hopkins will play the part of D’Amato in a movie known as ‘Cornerman’ and according to 2017 Casting Calls, they are now actively recruiting extras and other talent for the feature film.
It is thought that the plot of the film will feature heavily around how Cus D’Amato trained former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson.
During the early years D’Amato trained him before passing away not long before Tyson became the youngest heavyweight champion in boxing history.
Rupert Friend will be directing the film with no release date forthcoming just yet.
But what an interesting movie this could prove to be for boxing fans of not just the Mike Tyson era, but of one of the great trainers of the time who helped him get where he did.
D’Amato, a man known for his unique insight into the human condition developed his fighters both mentally and physically — often with a unique ‘Peek-A-Boo’ boxing style:
